Photographer Spotlight: Gered Mankowitz
After leaving school at the ripe age of 15, it did not take Gered Mankowitz long to begin pursuing a professional career in photography. When his photographs landed in the hands of renowned photograher Tom Blau, he offered teenage Mankowitz a life-changing opportunity at Camera Press Ltd. where he eventually began working in the studio and on assignment. In the early 1960s, Mankowitz started making more connections in the music industry, shooting artists ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Kate Bush to Elton John.
Decades later, Mankowitz still obtains a strong voice in the world of music and photography. Now working with more contemporary artists such as Oasis and The Hives, his work has been used for countless album covers and advertisements, as well as being featured in galleries across the globe. Mankowitz’ undeniable creative eye has been highlighted even further with last year’s fall release of his book entitled 50 Years of Rock and Roll Photography, displaying the impressive acts who Mankowitz has photographed throughout the span of his career.
It is no doubt that Gered Mankowitz is a creative force to be reckoned with and these are just a few of our favourite prints by him, all available here at Analogue Gallery.
